Job summary

Cooper Farms, Oakwood Division, Ohio, seeks a Sow Division Manager to direct daily operations of the Sow Division, including sow farms and related facilities. The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and achievement of performance goals within a small team.

The candidate will promote morale, coach staff, and coordinate with Ft Recovery staff to meet customer quality standards and company targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Management or Business field with 5+ years in management (livestock industry preferred).
• Strong leadership, safety awareness, and ability to lead a fast-paced team.
• Proven knowledge of swine production, biosecurity and operations optimization.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily Sow Division operations, including sow farms, GDUs and boar stud.
• Lead planning, decision-making and goal setting to meet company objectives.
• Promote morale, safety, team welfare and cooperation with Ft Recovery Grow/Finish staff.
• Develop short-/long-term objectives aligned with Cooper culture and growth.

Our Oakwood Division in Paulding County, Ohio, breeds hogs and turkeys while providing the best care to our animals in a small team setting. Cooper Farms is currently seeking a Sow Division Manager to join our team in Oakwood.

The primary goal of this position is to direct the daily operations of the Sow Division, while bringing leadership in the planning and decision-making process. This position requires the ability to promote change, promote positive morale, sound safety practices and team member welfare, meeting or exceeding all established goals and objectives.

SHIFT HOURS: Monday through Friday

STARTING RATE: Commensurate with experience

ADDITIONAL PAY: Monthly and year-end profit-sharing bonuses (dependent upon company performance)

Job Functions:

• Ensure all biosecurity programs are followed and consistently critiqued for improvements.
• Oversee daily operations of the Sow Division to ensure animal health, animal care, and productivity are priorities. This includes sow farms, GDUs (gilt development), the boar stud, and related support staff.
• Lead the team in meeting the Division’s and Company goals and objectives. Monitor these goals against industry benchmarks.
• Provide a strong model of leadership in planning, decision-making, and follow-through.
• Provide vision, direction, and support to all direct reports through weekly/monthly meetings and encourage communication throughout the Sow Division.
• Promote an atmosphere where the morale and welfare of team members are in line with Cooper Culture and values.
• Communicate with Ft Recovery Grow/Finish staff to ensure we are meeting our customers’ expectations and quality standards.
• Provides direction in reducing and controlling costs in all areas.
• Develop a positive working relationship with our Cooper staff, industry peers, neighbors, local officials and communities.
• Develop short-term and long-term objectives that promote the company culture and future growth including succession planning, adapting change, etc.
• Provide coaching and counseling, support, and discipline as needed to develop managers and enable them to achieve goals and objectives.

Requirements

• The qualified candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Management, or Business-related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in management required. Education requirements may be waived if candidate experience is exemplary in the livestock industry.
• This position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to safely lead a team to meet production goals in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of safety specifications and practices, production goals, and scheduling needs are a necessity.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels to strive towards continuous improvement is a must in this position.
• This position requires a strong background in all aspects of swine production including breeding, farrowing, the raising of hogs, and biosecurity. General knowledge of nutrition, waste management, facilities maintenance and all other aspects of swine production is required.
