Job summary

The Council on Aging of Central Oregon is seeking a Sous Chef who takes pride in creating meals that look as good as they taste for older adults across Central Oregon. This role offers a stable schedule with benefits, moving beyond the late nights of traditional kitchens while still leveraging culinary skills.

Ideal candidates bring experience across diverse kitchens, a willingness to learn, and clear communication while working with volunteers and staff to serve meals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and two+ years of supervisory food service experience.
• Ability to follow recipes and plating specs.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation in a commercial kitchen.
• Food handler certification in progress or obtained.
• Strong communication and teamwork in a busy kitchen.
• Bi-lingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and measure ingredients for meals with attention to portioning.
• Undertake basic cooking tasks and ensure appealing presentation.
• Train and supervise kitchen volunteers for safe food prep and workflow.
• Maintain safe handling, storage, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with kitchen coverage when the Executive Chef is on PTO.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers to serve meals to older adults.
