Job Overview

The Sous Chef is the second-in-command in our kitchen, supporting the Director of Culinary Services. The role involves managing kitchen operations, ensuring food quality and safety, and leading culinary staff to meet standards and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  1. Support the Director of Culinary Services in overseeing daily culinary operations and special events.
  2. Manage one or more kitchens onsite.
  3. Maintain and improve culinary standards, policies, and manuals.
  4. Train, develop, and manage culinary associates, including unionized staff.
  5. Control costs related to labor and food within budget guidelines.
  6. Ensure food safety, quality, presentation, and service standards are met.
  7. Collaborate on hiring, employee relations, and performance evaluations.
  8. Maintain effective client and guest relationships.
  9. Monitor culinary trends and implement best practices.
  10. Support sustainability initiatives, including local and minority vendors and eco-friendly products.
  11. Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, including ServSafe standards.
Qualifications
  • Culinary degree or minimum 3 years of culinary management experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in events, hospitality, or catering.
  • Experience managing unionized employees preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food principles, safety, and quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary: $55,000 - $75,000. Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k), matching, and paid time off.

Additional Information

This position remains open until May 26, 2025, at McCormick Place, Chicago's largest convention center, hosting major events and attracting millions annually.
