Description

The Fox Theatre in Atlanta is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Sous Chef.

The Sous Chef will play a critical role in the overall success of the culinary operations at the Fox Theatre, overseeing key areas such as the Marquee Club, specialty Concessions offerings, and in-house catering for events and meetings. They will be tasked with assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of all food preparation and service to ensure seamless operations and the highest levels of quality. This will include menu creation, ingredient sourcing, cooking, plating, and ensuring that all meals are delivered promptly and to the satisfaction of guests.

In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will step into the role of the primary culinary leader, making strategic decisions and ensuring that every aspect of the kitchen runs smoothly. This includes managing kitchen staff, addressing operational challenges, and upholding the highest standards of quality, creativity, and food safety. The Sous Chef will ensure that kitchen procedures align with health and safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, and see that all dishes are prepared to meet the high standards of both taste and presentation that the Fox Theatre brand is known for.

A significant part of this role involves supporting team morale and cultivating a collaborative work environment. The Sous Chef will work closely with both kitchen and front-of-house teams to foster open communication, encourage innovation, and ensure efficient teamwork. Through mentorship and leadership, they will inspire the culinary team to achieve and maintain excellence in food preparation, service, and hospitality.

Ultimately, the Sous Chef will be a key figure in delivering the outstanding culinary experience that guests of the Fox Theatre have come to expect. This individual will play a vital role in both day-to-day operations and long-term planning, helping to maintain and elevate the prestige of The Fox Theatre brand.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist in executing all culinary operations for the Marquee Club, Concessions, Private Events, and other Fox Theatre events as needed;
  • Responsibilities include production planning, scheduling, purchasing, inventory management, invoice and accounting tracking, and maintaining health and safety protocols;
  • Support the Executive Chef in hiring, training, coaching, and developing the culinary team;
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to promote team collaboration and professional growth;
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef to research, design, and implement innovative and high-quality menus that reflect the prestige, creativity, and unique identity of the Marquee Club and the Fox Theatre;
  • Identify new culinary trends, sourcing premium ingredients, and developing seasonal and event-specific offerings that excite and delight guests;
  • Ensure that all menu items maintain consistent quality, flavor, and presentation, while keeping the balance between creativity and customer preferences;
  • Collaborate with Executive Chef to refine and update menus based on guest feedback, operational needs, and emerging culinary advancements;
  • Work closely with Food & Beverage management and other Fox departments (e.g., events, marketing, operations) to execute special events, private functions, and public events;
  • Assist in ensuring seamless event logistics, catering, and culinary delivery;
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen, including maintaining current ServSafe certification, while adhering to local health department guidelines and upholding strict hygiene and cleanliness standards;
  • Monitor kitchen processes and improve work methods to increase efficiency and ensure timely food preparation during peak service periods;
  • Support the Executive Chef in managing labor costs, food waste reduction, and ensuring optimal food cost margins;
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Chef or management to support the overall success of the Food & Beverage department.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of sous chef experience or 3+ years as a lead line cook in upscale environments;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing kitchen staff, fostering teamwork, and maintaining morale;
  • Exhibiting leadership in the absence of the Executive Chef;
  • Proven track record in a leadership role within a culinary setting, such as a private club, fine dining restaurant, or catering operation;
  • Follow local health department guidelines and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment;
  • Proven ability in cooking techniques, savory and sweet preparations, food presentation, and production for large-scale events and high-end dining;
  • Current ServSafe Manager Certification and comprehensive knowledge of HACCP guidelines;
  • Ability to assist in research, development, and execution of creative, high-quality menus that reflect the standards of the Marquee Club and Fox Theatre;
  • Competent in managing food inventory, ordering supplies, and controlling costs to prevent waste;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel) and POS systems for tracking orders, inventory, and event requirements;
  • Strong communication skills with both kitchen staff and management, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Qualifications Preferred:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field is preferred to demonstrate formal training in advanced culinary techniques;
  • 5+ years of experience with high-end catering, private club, or fine dining operations, including experience with specialized diets or unique menu requests;
  • Experience in building relationships with suppliers, negotiating product costs, and ensuring quality food sourcing;
  • Knowledge of culinary budgeting, labor costs, and financial management, assisting the Executive Chef in cost-efficient operations;
  • Experience collaborating with event planners or other departments for seamless execution of public and private events, with a focus on culinary excellence;
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, keeping up with culinary trends, and embracing new techniques, technologies, and leadership training opportunities.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Long periods of traversing Marquee Club and Fox Theatre including moving between multiple floors;
  • Long periods of remaining stationary;
  • Often reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, stooping and wiping;
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

Other Physical Requirements:

  • Stamina to work 60 hours or more per week;
  • Must be able to work extended shifts of 10 hours or more as business dictates;
  • Must be flexible with schedule and able to work different shifts;
  • Must be able to work variable shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed;
  • Successful applicants must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check.

The Marquee Club Presented by Lexus is the Fox Theatre’s premium club space open to Club Level seat holders or annual Members only.
