Location: University of Pittsburgh

We are hiring immediately for a Sous Chef position.

Address: 3990 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Note: online applications accepted only.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, with some weekends and nights required. More details upon interview.

Requirement: Union experience preferred. Must have a strong background in scratch cooking and following recipes. Experience in large-scale operations with three meal periods is highly preferred. A cook test will be part of the hiring process.

Salary: $60,000.00

Job Summary:

As a Sous Chef I, you are responsible for assisting with the overall success of the food program and overseeing culinary functions. Responsibilities include planning, ordering, inventory, and food preparation, adhering to client culture, health regulations, and company standards. You will motivate, train, develop, and direct back-of-house staff to ensure customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in preparing and cooking various food items.
  • Help plan and create menus.
  • Implement new culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams.
  • Manage cost controls and expenditures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of related culinary experience, including 1 year in management.
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, healthcare, or related food services.
  • Knowledge of food trends, quality, sanitation, safety, and presentation.
  • Ability to set up and distribute production sheets.
  • Leadership and training skills.
  • ServSafe or Department of Health Certification preferred.
  • Computer skills, including MS Office and Excel.
  • Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
