Sous Chef Responsibilities
- Report to duty punctually, wearing the correct uniform.
- Run the line during the service, ensuring that the highest standards are met and that communication between all sections and restaurant departments is efficient and polite.
- Produce menu items for service, maintaining high standards for quality, appearance, and portion size.
- Monitor the quality and presentation of dishes to ensure only those meeting our high standards are served to guests.
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness by following routines and ongoing diligence during shifts and set-up/clean-down procedures.
- Observe the company’s fire plan and health safety policy.
- Use and operate all necessary tools and equipment safely and effectively, including knives.
- Perform monthly inventories accurately.
- Assist in standardizing recipes to ensure consistent quality.
- Assist the Chef with daily pre-shift/post-shift meetings to increase communication.
- Analyze sales figures to set, monitor, and control the kitchen budget.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with management.
- Foster good rapport between kitchen and front of house staff to minimize conflict.
- Conduct regular meetings to discuss performance, concerns, priorities, and strategic vision.
- Monitor labor costs to stay within budgets when scheduling staff.
- Develop efficient food inventory management processes.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Maximize kitchen staff productivity through training and supervision, establishing an ongoing training calendar.
- Maintain vendor relationships for ordering supplies.
- Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met.
- Perform administrative duties as needed.
- Respond to guest complaints appropriately.
- Supervise kitchen staff and delegate tasks as needed.
Employee Relations
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new staff.
- Create and post staff schedules.
- Handle employee counseling as needed.
- Maintain a positive, stress-free environment for team members.
- Facilitate employee recognition and incentive programs.
- Monitor staff appearance and take corrective action if necessary.
- Conduct timely employee reviews.
- Work with HR and Chef to resolve staff conflicts.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff.

Job Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- Minimum 2 years experience as a culinary supervisor or higher
- Good food & beverage knowledge, including basic costing
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Experience in training culinary staff
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook; POS experience helpful
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong math skills for budgeting and recipe calculations
- Valid food sanitation and alcohol awareness certifications (may be obtained upon hire)
