Nino Salvaggio is currently looking for a Sous Chef for our new Livonia location opening in Fall 2025. This position will train at our other metro Detroit locations, including Bloomfield Twp, Troy, Clinton Twp, and St. Clair Shores.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively direct and supervise all functions of the department, including production, to meet sales, profit, customer service, and labor goals.
- Develop plans to maximize sales and overall results.
- Coordinate activities related to production, sale, merchandising, and distribution of products.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and employment laws, maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.
- Interview, hire, train, and develop deli staff following company policies and legal guidelines.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all products and adhere to quality standards.
- Prepare gourmet to-go products according to recipes and guidelines.
- Work with management to determine product quantities based on projections.
- Manage product distribution, supplier relationships, and inventory control.
- Ensure proper merchandising, dating, pricing, and restocking procedures.
- Verify received merchandise against invoices and quality standards.
- Oversee ordering, inventory, and stock rotation for freshness and sales efficiency.
- Maintain clear communication within the department and organization.
- Develop staff through training, supervision, and recognition.
- Comply with safety and sanitation standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming department environment.
- Provide feedback to management and oversee all department staff and activities, including demos and special events.
- Assist with catering and party planning operations.
- Motivate staff to meet sales and service goals and lead by example.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous management experience required.
- Reliable transportation necessary.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Food service management certification required.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- At least 1 year of related experience or demonstrated ability.
- Culinary degree or relevant work experience preferred.
- Proficiency in report writing and business communication.
- Ability to stand, walk for extended periods, and lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
- Fine motor skills for handling and preparing products.
