Sourcing Specialist – Overview

The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for implementing sourcing plans and tactics to manage sourcing activities for their assigned portfolio, maximizing supplier performance in cost, quality, and lead time while supporting the GeoUnit business plan.

Responsibilities
  • Implement sourcing plans to assure specified quality, meet delivery times, and minimize cost.
  • Document performance of action plans and timelines for sourcing projects.
  • Select a high‑performance supply base in accordance with a short‑list of preferred suppliers defined by Category Managers.
  • Conduct RFI/Q/P and bidding processes, minimizing risk and maximizing value in quality, delivery and cost.
  • Evaluate suppliers through reviews, site visits and audits with Supplier Quality teams.
  • Negotiate prices and terms to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives.
  • Execute contract negotiation and development with the Sourcing Manager and Contract Specialists.
  • Drive parts and process qualification with Supplier Quality teams.
  • Work closely with the Sourcing Manager or Leader to guarantee supply for portfolios.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce wasted time, money and resources from assigned tasks.
  • Comply with Schlumberger and local procedures applicable to the job function.
Key Qualifications and Attributes

Relevant Industry Experience (Preferred)

  • 1–3 years in a manufacturing‑related environment (machined parts, forgings, castings, fabrication, fasteners).
  • Prior exposure to technical sourcing, supplier engagement or cost analysis is a strong plus.

Technical Background (For Early‑Career or New Graduates)

  • Academic focus or supplemental coursework in manufacturing processes, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related technical fields.
  • Comfort with engineering drawings, specifications and basic manufacturing workflows.

Technical Sourcing Competency

  • Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
  • Engaging suppliers on manufacturing capabilities and process requirements.
  • Evaluating quotes for technical components.
  • Interacting with engineering, operations and quality stakeholders.
  • Candidates without technical exposure may be less suited for this role.

Digital and Analytical Acumen

  • Ability to work with large datasets and perform structured analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions), Power BI, SAP/Ariba or similar ERP/procurement systems.
  • Strong overall digital fluency and willingness to learn new tools.

Business and Commercial Understanding

  • Interpretation of tariffs, duty structures, cost breakdowns and material indices.
  • Commercial judgment to balance cost, risk and operational requirements.
