Job summary

MercyOne Waterloo is seeking an experienced ultrasound professional to join our night shift team. This full-time position offers a $10,000 sign-on incentive and relocation assistance may be available, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

As a member of MercyOne Northeast Iowa, you will perform quality ultrasound procedures across a wide patient population, educate patients, follow safety protocols, and contribute to high‑quality imaging care in a supportive, patient‑centered workplace.

Qualifications

• Must be ARDMS registered with one of the listed credentials.
• If not registered, be board-eligible and register within one year.
• Maintains active ARDMS registry status (CME required).
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training within 6 months.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire and every 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Performs quality ultrasound procedures by utilizing proper positioning skills and technical factors across patient populations.
• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
• Educates patients about exams and obtains consent when necessary.
• Maintains safety in accordance with established standards.
• Applies critical thinking in daily and emergent assessment of protocols.
• Assesses patient prep and scanning protocol for each exam.
• Follows established Ultrasound Department protocols.
• Observes safety precautions during examinations and patient contact.
• Operates 2D, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound unit for accurate measurements.

Education

ARDMS certification (RDMS/RDCS/RVT/RMSKS)

Board-eligible; plan to register within 12 months

Active ARDMS registry maintenance (CME)

Shift Hours: Nights Weekend Package

What you will do:

• Performs quality ultrasound procedures by utilizing proper positioning skills and technical factors, as well as a knowledge of anatomical structures pertinent to the patient population of infants to geriatrics.

• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.

• Educates patients of exams being performed and obtains consent to perform procedure when necessary.

• Practices proper safety in accordance with established standards.

• Utilizes critical thinking in daily and emergent assessment of proper protocols.

• Assesses each patient for proper preparation and scanning protocol for each ordered exam.

• Follows protocols that have been established for the Ultrasound Department.

• Observes safety precautions when handling patients, while performing examinations and while patients are in direct contact..

• Operates 2D, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound unit with appropriate transducers to perform and adequately ascertain the location of specific organs, with the demonstration of recorded images which reflect the appropriate calculations for accurate measurements.

Qualifications:

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with one of the following.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
• Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
• Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer (RMSKS)
• If not registered, be board-eligible and become registered with ARDMS within one year of hire.
• Maintains active registry status with ARDMS (30 CME’s every 3 yrs/annual payment)
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within six (6) months of hire and every three (3) years thereafter.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
