Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa in Waterloo, IA seeks an ultrasound technologist for night shift, full-time, performing a range of infant-to-geriatric imaging with emphasis on safety and patient education. The role involves patient assessment, diagnostic sonography and adherence to departmental protocols.

Qualifications

• ARDMS certification or board-eligible within 1 year of hire.
• Maintain active ARDMS registry status with CME requirements.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire and every 2 years.
• Complete mandated abuse reporting training within six months and every 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Performs quality ultrasound procedures with proper positioning and technique.
• Conducts clinical assessments and diagnostic sonography exams.
• Educates patients about exams and obtains informed consent when needed.
• Adheres to ultrasound department safety protocols.
• Applies critical thinking for daily and emergent protocol decisions.
• Verifies patient preparation and scanning protocol for each exam.
• Follows established department protocols for imaging.
• Operates 2D, M-mode and Doppler units with appropriate transducers.

Shift Hours: Nights Weekend Package

What You Will Do

• Performs quality ultrasound procedures by utilizing proper positioning skills and technical factors, as well as a knowledge of anatomical structures pertinent to the patient population of infants to geriatrics.
• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
• Educates patients of exams being performed and obtains consent to perform procedure when necessary.
• Practices proper safety in accordance with established standards.
• Utilizes critical thinking in daily and emergent assessment of proper protocols.
• Assesses each patient for proper preparation and scanning protocol for each ordered exam.
• Follows protocols that have been established for the Ultrasound Department.
• Observes safety precautions when handling patients, while performing examinations and while patients are in direct contact. .
• Operates 2D, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound unit with appropriate transducers to perform and adequately ascertain the location of specific organs, with the demonstration of recorded images which reflect the appropriate calculations for accurate measurements.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with one of the following.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
• Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
• Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer (RMSKS)
• If not registered, be board-eligible and become registered with ARDMS within one year of hire.
• Maintains active registry status with ARDMS (30 CME's every 3 yrs/annual payment)
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within six (6) months of hire and every three (3) years thereafter.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
