Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Per Diem Sonographer in Batavia for the Radiology department. The role includes performing vascular, abdominal, OB/GYN, and neurovascular studies, acquiring high-quality images, and assisting radiologists to deliver accurate diagnoses.

The position requires RDMS certification or equivalent, with ongoing education and precepting responsibilities for ultrasound students. Per diem shifts include weekday and weekend coverage at the Batavia site.

Qualifications

  • RDMS certification within 6 months of graduation (CAAHEP) or 18 months if non-accredited program.
  • Certificate or degree in ultrasound required for all new hires.
  • For Neurovascular & Vascular, RDMS not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs abdominal, vascular, OB/GYN, and/or transcranial Doppler ultrasound scans.
  • Produces ultrasound images and measurements with various transducers.
  • Notes scan in patient chart and completes preliminary reporting.
  • Calls preliminary reports to physicians as requested by Radiologist.
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures under sonographic guidance.
  • Maintains room readiness and participates in CME activities.

STATUS: Per Diem

LOCATION: Batavia Medical Campus & UMMC - North St. Campus

DEPARTMENT: Radiology

SCHEDULE: Per diem (M-F; shifts: 7 am - 3:30 pm, 8 am - 4 pm, 9 am - 5 pm, 3 pm-11 pm); On-Call: Weekend call rotation, Weekday evening call as needed

SUMMARY

As a Sonographer, you play an important part in high quality imaging exams needed to deliver quality care to our patients. Performs or assists in the performance of Vascular, Abdominal, OB/GYN or Neurovascular Sonography exams. The primary objective is to obtain high quality images and maximize the efficiency of the Radiologist or Neurologist while providing exceptional patient care and maintaining a consistent level of quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs abdominal, vascular, OB/GYN, and/or transcranial Doppler ultrasound scans. Produces ultrasound images and obtains all required measurements using various transducers, imaging techniques in compliance with procedure standards as determined by the physician or directing provider. Reviews patient chart for patient history information, valid orders, and clinical appropriateness. Notes the performance of the scan in the patient’s chart and completes preliminary reporting. Calls preliminary reports to doctors’ offices or nursing floors at the request of the Radiologist. Assists physicians with invasive procedures under sonographic guidance. Cleans, stocks, and prepares rooms on a daily basis. Attends hospital and departmental meetings and in-services. Provide high-quality patient care with exceptional service and compassion. Attend continuing education classes (CME) to maintain registry. Act as a resource to ultrasound students by demonstration and explanation of procedures; function as a preceptor in the orientation of new personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate OR Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound is required for all new hires. Required Licensure/Certification: For Radiology sites/affiliates with ACR accreditation, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required (within 6 months of graduation from Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or within 18 months of graduation from a non-accredited program). If hired before September 1, 2022, a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is required by March 1, 2023. For Neurovascular & Vascular, the RDMS is not required. New Graduates: Official transcript from an accredited school or a letter emailed directly from the school’s registrar’s office confirming program completion will be accepted upon graduation. Primary source education verification required within 90 days of start date.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.
