Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an experienced software professional to design, develop, and install advanced software solutions on-site in Ohio. You will work within a team adopting Waterfall or Agile methods, translating requirements into scalable architectures and delivering end-to-end software capabilities.

You should possess a Bachelor's degree in a technical field and at least 7 years of relevant experience, with strong DevOps, CI/CD, and production support skills.

Job Summary

Part of a larger team delivering high quality technology solutions to the business. Design, develop and installs advanced software solutions. Build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software in compliance with internal architecture, development & design standards & best practices. Design, modify, develop, write, implement and troubleshoot software programming applications. Support and/or install software applications. Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Works within a Waterfall or Agile methodology/framework based team. Collaborates heavily with Project Management, Business Analyst and Infrastructure Job Families.

What you’ll do:
  • Responsibilities include one or more of the following for any sized project: Develop solutions to resolve customer and prospective customer issues in a logical, creative and structured manner.
  • Align the client’s goals, needs and objectives to the solutions.
  • Communicate issues and status in a clear, timely manner.
  • Interpret specifications and build advanced solutions to those specifications.Support the business strategy by acting as an expert of the company's services and products, including usage, architecture, functionality and deployment.
  • Develop custom presentations and demonstrations.Generates infrastructure support documentation.
  • Make proposals and help to write request for proposal (RFP) responses.Evaluate and propose process improvements.
  • Maintain the highest level of knowledge about the company's software/hardware products.
  • May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.
Experience:
  • 7 years relevant work experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
Other Must Haves:
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering software solutions using modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar.
  • Proven experience applying DevOps principles throughout the software development lifecycle, including CI/CD automation, infrastructure as code, monitoring, observability, security integration, and production support in enterprise environments.

Responsible for the operational support, security, and lifecycle management of network infrastructure supporting Cook Nuclear operations. This role focuses on incident response, task execution, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure refresh activities, ensuring compliance with NERC CIP standards and regulatory requirements.
