Job summary

Johnston County is seeking a full-time Site Attendant to assist the public at a solid waste collection site, help unload and sort materials, and provide information on operations and policies. The role involves working in inside/outside environments, maintaining site cleanliness, and recording site activity while supporting disabled customers as needed.

Responsibilities include guiding citizens, screening materials, operating equipment, and coordinating via radio with supervisors and drivers.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of collection and sorting procedures for solid waste and recyclables.
• Ability to interpret and apply waste disposal policies.
• Ability to interact effectively with the public and coworkers.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to maintain simple records of site activities.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist citizens unloading materials, explain recycling programs and fees.
• Screen material for content and proper use of fee stickers.
• Operate compactor equipment, grease and maintain equipment, and keep area clean.
• Maintain records of site activities and visitor counts.
• Use two-way radio to communicate with supervision and truck drivers.
• May operate County vehicles as required.
