Job summary

The Johnston County Solid Waste Department is seeking a full-time Site Attendant to assist the public at a collection site, help unload and sort waste and recyclables, and provide information on operations and policies.

Work includes maintaining a neat site, assisting disabled customers, and following safety and record-keeping requirements; the role may involve operating equipment and County vehicles.

Qualifications

• Understanding policies for sorting solid waste and recyclables.
• Ability to explain operations and policies to customers.
• Ability to interact with the public and coworkers effectively.
• Ability to understand and follow written and spoken instructions.
• Ability to maintain simple records of site activities.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists citizens with unloading materials from vehicles and explains recycling programs.
• Screens material for proper content and fee sticker use.
• Operates compactor equipment and maintains area; sweeps and trims grounds.
• Maintains simple records of site activities and visitors.
• Operates two-way radio to stay in touch with supervision and truck drivers.
• Duties may require operation of County vehicles.
