Job summary
ION Storage Systems in Beltsville, MD is seeking a Battery Scientist I or II to join our Cell Research and Development team. You will learn and perform research on lithium-based solid-state battery cells, fabricate prototypes, and analyze data to understand and improve electrochemical performance.
The role requires hands-on lab work, collaboration with senior scientists, and the potential to lead campaigns at Scientist II level.
Qualifications
- BS or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field with lab work
- MS or PhD with laboratory-based research experience in battery materials
- Hands-on measurement and analysis of material properties related to batteries
- Ability to analyze data to draw defensible conclusions
- Clear technical communication, teamwork and organization
Responsibilities
- Learn and perform research on electrochemical cells and their components
- Fabricate prototypes and conduct testing with statistical analyses
- Collaborate with senior scientists to interpret results
- Document experimental design, results and uncertainties
- Support design and fabrication of tools for cell assembly and testing
- Troubleshoot results and translate findings into changes
- Stay current with battery literature and methods
- Identify opportunities to improve R&D processes
- Follow safety protocols and maintain lab cleanliness
- Independently scope and lead campaigns at Scientist II level and mentor juniors
