Job summary

Prometheus Energetics in Bloomington, IN seeks an experienced Design Engineer to drive mechanical design, integration, and rapid prototyping of solid rocket motor hardware. You will create 3D models, 2D drawings, ICDs, and interface documents for SRM subsystems while coordinating with Systems, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

You will ensure designs meet performance, structural, and safety standards, support design reviews, and contribute to fast-turn prototyping within a high-hazard

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 4+ years of progressive mechanical/propulsion design experience.
• Experience in solid rocket motors or energetic hardware.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting; PDM/PLM familiarity.
• Strong communication skills for cross-disciplinary teams.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. Government clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead 3D CAD modeling and drafting of SRM components (motor cases, nozzles, closures, igniters) using Creo or NX.
• Draft and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and drawing trees for prototype builds and test integration.
• Perform design trade studies on materials, joints, and manufacturability versus weight/performance.
• Conduct tolerance/assembly analysis using GD&T principles to ensure fit and function across interfaces.
• Support MRB evaluations, RCCA investigations, and post-test inspections as needed.
