Job summary

Prometheus Energetics in the United States is seeking an experienced Ballistician & Igniter Design Engineer to lead interior ballistics modeling and igniter system architecture for Solid Rocket Motors. The role reports to the Director of Engineering and covers sizing, burn rate tailoring, and ignition transient modeling through qualification and production support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
• 4–6 years SRM interior ballistics/propellant grain design experience for junior roles; 7–10+ for senior roles.
• Experience with interior ballistics theory, thermochemical tools (NASA CEA), and 2D/3D grain design software.
• Direct experience designing, sizing, or testing solid rocket motor igniters.
• Hands-on experience analyzing strand burner, subscale motor, or full-scale static fire data.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead interior ballistics analysis and performance prediction for solid rocket motor programs.
• Design and optimize 3D propellant grain geometries to meet impulse and CG constraints.
• Model ignition transients and ignition systems to ensure smooth motor startup.
• Oversee initiator selection, interfaces, and safety compliance.
• Lead testing campaigns to characterize pyrogen ballistics and ignition performance.
