Job summary

iRocket seeks a senior Solid Rocket Motor Engineer to own an SRM from requirements through production and testing. The role spans analysis, drawings, manufacturing decisions, test hardware, and hands-on execution with program-management awareness. Location: New York or Texas, based at one of iRocket's facilities.

Strong leadership and collaboration across teams are essential. Required: advanced degree in aerospace/mechanical propulsion, 5+ years SRM design/development, 10+ years preferred,

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in aerospace/mechanical propulsion or closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years SRM design/development experience; 10+ years preferred.
• Experience designing and building solid rocket motors with involvement in motor assembly and static-fire or flight-test activities.
• Strong knowledge of SRM internal ballistics, grain geometry, case/nozzle/insulation design, materials, manufacturing methods, propulsion-system integration.
• Ability to independently drive motor development in a fast-paced hardware environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead SRM IR&D portfolio from concept to production maturation.
• Design and integrate motor cases, propellant grains, insulation/liners, igniters, nozzles, and related components.
• Perform internal ballistics, structural, thermal, mass-properties analyses and design trade studies.
• Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, interface requirements, and configuration-controlled data.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve producibility issues and build flight-representative hardware.
• Plan motor assembly, instrumentation, static-fire testing, data reduction, and post-test inspection.
• Drive design-for-manufacture and design-for-scale for repeatability and cost reductions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers and technicians.
