Job summary

Qcells North America is seeking a Material Development Engineer to drive development and qualification of polymer materials for solar modules. You will fabricate pilot modules, evaluate material compatibility, and conduct reliability testing to support long-term module performance.

Responsibilities include characterizing materials with FTIR/UV-Vis/DSC/TGA and coordinating with suppliers, engineering, and overseas teams to ensure timely project execution.

Qualifications

  • Degree-related knowledge in materials and polymers required.
  • Experience with material development and evaluation in module/system contexts.
  • Ability to translate lab data into engineering decisions.
  • Strong collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive problem solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate polymer materials for solar modules and related components.
  • Fabricate pilot/test modules with new polymer materials and assess process compatibility.
  • Perform reliability testing including damp heat, thermal cycling, humidity-freeze, UV exposure.
  • Plan material characterization using FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, tensile testing, microscopy.
  • Analyze results and prepare reports to support material selection/qualification.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, internal engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and overseas teams.
  • Support new material projects for G12, TOPCon, and new encapsulant/backsheet/glass combos.
  • Address supplier issues and production-related material topics promptly.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions to reduce delays and improve efficiency.
  • Travel to Korea, Germany, and domestic sites for supplier meetings and alignment.
