Job description

Solar Farm Technician II

Location: Thorndale, TX, US, 76577

Company: RWE Clean Energy, LLC

Position: Full-time, Permanent, Immediate Start

Role Overview

The Solar Farm Technician II is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance across all scopes of an operating power plant. This includes civil, mechanical, electrical inspections and repairs, as well as instrumentation and control (I&C). The role also involves operational duties such as monitoring, controlling, and trending to maximize productivity and generation, with a focus on safety.

Responsibilities
  1. Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment.
  2. Ensure all tasks are performed safely and according to site procedures.
  3. Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA's, Permit to Work, and documentation for safe inspections and repairs.
  4. Identify opportunities for process improvements.
  5. Collect data and prepare reports.
  6. Perform work on the balance of plant and switchyard as needed.
  7. Monitor maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions.
  8. Conduct electrical testing, including insulation and thermal testing.
  9. Document all work and generate reports.
  10. Use Microsoft Office and other software for communication and troubleshooting.
  11. Identify safety gaps and risks.
  12. Assist with BOP activities when required.
  13. Respond to emergencies and troubleshooting needs promptly.
  14. Manage site access, security, deliveries, and inspections per protocols.
  15. Interface with third-party contractors.
  16. Be available for nontraditional hours and emergency response.
  17. Operate mobile equipment like mowers, forklifts, and tractors.
  18. Represent the company professionally during interactions with contractors, vendors, and the community.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Current Nevada State PV Installers license.
  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a maintenance electrician or equivalent.
  • Experience in solar operations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of power plant operations, electrical/mechanical maintenance, and substation work.
  • Strong safety and electrical safety knowledge.
  • Understanding of NEC standards.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work under deadlines, travel as needed, and work independently or in a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • First aid/CPR/AED and OSHA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, climb, stand extensively, and lift tools/equipment over 50 lbs.
