Job summary

American Home Contractors (AHC) is a solar and roofing company hiring a skilled field electrician to own the electrical side of our solar installs. You will lead apprentices on jobs, drive a company vehicle, and travel regionally across MD, VA, DC, PA, WV, DE and NJ while maintaining high safety standards.

Candidates must hold a journeyman license, have 3+ years in the trade, read blueprints, and be comfortable climbing ladders and working outdoors.

Qualifications

• Journeyman license required and state-verified.
• Active enrollment or completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
• Minimum 3+ years in the electrical trade.
• Strong knowledge of NEC and local codes.
• Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
• Comfortable working on roofs and attics with fall protection.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair electrical systems for solar roofing.
• Run conduit and wiring to NEC and local code.
• Install breakers, inverters, Powerwalls, and other components.
• Handle inspections and troubleshoot problems.
• Lead and mentor apprentices and field techs.
• Complete manufacturer and licensing training.
• Take photos and notes in CompanyCam before leaving the job.

About the job

This is a field job with travel across MD, VA, DC, PA, WV, DE, and NJ about 35% to 40% of the time. You own the electrical side of our solar installs and lead the apprentices on your jobs.

What you need

• A journeyman electrician license. We verify every license with the state.
• One exception: you are enrolled now in an electrical apprenticeship and working toward your journeyman license, or you agree to enroll in the IEC Chesapeake 4-year apprenticeship at the next open session after you're hired (January classes, applications due December 1). Apprentices must hold a state apprentice license before doing hands-on electrical work.
• 3+ years in the electrical trade
• Working knowledge of NEC and local code
• Able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams and troubleshoot what you find
• Comfortable on roofs and in attics. You use fall protection every time.
• This role involves climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lb, and working outdoors, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Bring your own basic electrician's hand tools; we supply the rest
• Live within 85 miles of our Columbia, MD warehouse, or relocate before your start date
• Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance carrier's standards (MVR reviewed after offer)

Nice to have

• Tesla Powerwall or Tesla solar panel experience
• Solar PV, battery storage, and battery backup experience
• Experience supervising crews

Pay and benefits

• $30 to $38 per hour, based on experience. Hourly, non-exempt, with overtime pay for hours over 40 in a week.
