Job summary

American Home Contractors is seeking a hands-on Solar Panel Installer to remove and reinstall PV panels during roof replacements and upgrades. You will work with licensed electricians and roofing crews, supervise subcontractors on site, perform basic maintenance, and ensure system safety and quality.

You must be able to climb on steep roofs, lift up to 50 lb, and travel 25–35% overnight, with a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of paid hands-on work in solar, roofing, construction, or electrical (required).
• Comfortable on steep pitched roofs and in attics; fall protection required.

Responsibilities

• Remove and reinstall panels for roof replacements and upgrades.
• Inspect for damage and handle basic maintenance, repairs, and cleaning.
• Secure racking, hardware, and panels to manufacturer spec.
• Shut down PV systems safely before any work starts.
• Work with electricians on tie-ins, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Keep a clean job site that meets OSHA standards.
• Take photos and notes in CompanyCam and report any problems before you leave the job.

About the job

You remove and reinstall solar panels and systems during roof replacements and upgrades, and you handle maintenance and troubleshooting. We call this R&R. You work with our licensed electricians and roofing crews, run smaller R&Rs on your own, and supervise subcontractors on site.

What you need

• 2+ years of paid hands-on work in solar, roofing, construction, or electrical (required)
• You know rail and railless racking, string and micro inverters, basic commissioning, moderate conduit bending, and safe PV shutdown
• Comfortable on steep pitched roofs and in attics, in all weather. You use fall protection every time.
• This role involves lifting up to 50 lb, climbing ladders, and kneeling and bending on sloped surfaces, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Bring your own basic hand tools; we supply the rest
• Overnight travel 25% to 35% of the year (required), available out of town Monday through Thursday
• Live within 40 miles of Fulton, MD or Chantilly, VA, or relocate before your start date
• Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance carrier's standards (MVR reviewed after offer)

Nice to have

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• Tesla, Enphase, or SolarEdge experience. We train you on the rest.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus for job-site communication

Pay and benefits

• $27 to $32 per hour, based on experience. Hourly, with overtime pay.
• Lodging paid on overnight trips, plus per diem of $110 a day (2026 IRS per diem guidelines)
