Job description

Job Title: Solar Draughtsman (Rooftop & Ground-Mount Projects)

Role Overview

As a Solar Draughtsman, you will create precise, scaled and geo-referenced technical drawings and plans for both rooftop and ground-mount solar installations. Youll work closely with engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure seamless execution from design through construction. This is a fully remote, work-from-home role, with occasional travel for site visits or discussions as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and update CAD drawings (AutoCAD) for PV layouts, including module arrays, cable trays, mounting structures, foundations, grading, and site access.
• Produce shop and fabrication drawings for structural and electrical components.
• Compile and maintain plan-set documentation: site plans, elevations, sections, bills of materials, and geo-referenced exports (DWG/DXF).
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, and mechanical engineers to integrate multidisciplinary design requirements.
• Generate and revise as-built, scaled, and geo-referenced drawings reflecting any site changes.
• Ensure all drawings comply with industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
• Support Bill Of quantity take-offs.
• Participate in design review meetings and drive continuous improvements in drawing standards and workflows.
• Interpret and integrate topographic survey scans into layout planning.

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years of drafting experience in the solar PV sector (rooftop & ground-mount).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, including use of layers, blocks, data extraction, and geo-referencing tools.
• Demonstrated ability to produce scaled and geo-referenced DWG/DXF outputs.
• Prepare as-built drawings and design documentation for handover.
• Solid understanding of electrical layouts, cable routing, conduit & trenching.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Added Advantage

• Civil engineering knowledge (foundations, grading, drainage).
• Mechanical insight into mounting structures and tracker systems.
• Experience with GIS platforms.
• Experience on European solar projects and familiarity with local permitting processes.
• Basic use of PV performance tools (PVSyst, PVCase, Google SketchUp).
• Knowledge of European standards.
• Assist in preparing planning/permitting documentation (site plans, interconnection schematics, access routes).
• Knowledge of substation designing.
