State of Iowa - Executive Branch's Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is seeking a Soil Conservation Technician trainee in the Field Services Bureau to support soil and water conservation efforts across local SWCD offices in Iowa.

The position involves inventory, layout, survey, design, inspection of practices, coordination with landowners and contractors, and engagement in training and outreach activities; background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists SWCD with inventory and evaluation of conservation practices.
• Participates in layout, survey, design, and inspection of installations.
• Reviews contractor work for compliance with standards.
• Prepares cost estimates and coordinates site visits.
• Communicates options and program details to landowners.
• Schedules field visits and conducts on-site inspections.
• Performs layout, design, and checkout of practices using survey tools.
• Oversees contractor work and verifies maintenance agreements.
• Reviews construction plans with landowners and staff.
• Reviews invoices for accuracy and cost sharing.
• Educates SWCD commissioners, staff, and the public.
• Supports field office education, outreach programs, and field days.
• Assists with SWCD projects and programs.
• Maintains positive relationships to promote productivity.
• Supports training of federal, state, district staff.
• Attends meetings and training to retain competencies.
• Background check and fingerprint verification required.
