Redwood Materials is seeking a Software Validation Engineer for Energy Storage to design SIL/HIL environments and automated test frameworks, ensuring high-reliability power electronics and site controllers. You will develop verification plans, integrate tests into CI/CD, and work with firmware on edge cases in a high-voltage lab.

The role requires 2+ years in software validation for hardware, experience with Typhoon HIL/Opal-RT, and proficiency in Python, Rust, and C/C++.

Qualifications

• Background: A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 2+ years in software validation or test automation for hardware-focused systems.
• HIL/SIL mastery with real-time simulation platforms (Typhoon HIL, Opal-RT, ordSPACE) and modeling power electronics in virtual env.
• Automation toolchain: Python for test automation (Pytest); familiarity with Rust and C/C++ for embedded codebases.
• Hardware literacy for high-voltage lab work; proficient with oscilloscope, power supplies, and CAN, SPI, Ethernet protocols.
• Systematic thinking to break software and find edge cases in complex state machines and control loops.
• Infrastructure skills: Git, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, and Docker for stable test environments.

Responsabilités

• Design and scale SIL and HIL environments to simulate battery assets and grid conditions.
• Lead development of automated test suites in Python and transition validation to an automated framework.
• Define and execute V&V plans ensuring site controller and embedded power electronics meet requirements.
• Integrate automated HIL/SIL testing into CI/CD pipelines for real-time feedback to dev teams.
• Design interface hardware and wiring for HIL benches to connect controllers to simulated power stages.
• Collaborate with firmware and systems teams to debug failures using logic analyzers and telemetry logs.
