Redwood Materials Inc. seeks a Battery Software & Controls Integration Engineer to advance the grid-scale storage software stack. The role blends electrochemistry insight with embedded firmware to bring up diverse second-life battery packs and validate BMS state estimations against real-world data.

You will implement Redwood’s state-estimation and derating algorithms in Rust or C/C++, and interoperate with OEMs, HSIL hardware, and PCS systems. Based in San Francisco, on-site work model.

Competenze

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in BMS firmware/controls development, battery pack bring-up, or EV/BESS battery integration.
• Deep understanding of lithium-ion battery physics, ECM, Kalman filtering, Coulomb counting, and high-voltage safety.
• Proficient with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, CAN analysis tools, and diagnostic protocols.
• Strong programming in Rust and C/C++ in RTOS/Linux environments; experience with MATLAB/Simulink and data analysis.

Mansioni

• Hands-on pack bring-up and reverse engineering of second-life EV battery packs, including CAN/CAN-FD/LIN/Ethernet traffic handling.
• Validate OEM BMS algorithms (SoC, SoH, SoP, resistance growth, fault thresholds) against lab data.
• Integrate Redwood’s battery state-estimation and derating algorithms atop or beside OEM telemetry.
• Develop software gateways to normalize pack telemetry and interface with PCS/site controllers.
• Lead technical reviews with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to negotiate firmware builds and lookup tables.
• Collaborate with validation and power electronics teams to model pack dynamics and perform HIL/physical verification.
