Job summary

Sierra Instruments, a TASI Measurement company, seeks a Software Sustainability Engineer to understand legacy factory software, support production-critical systems, and modernize interfaces with sensors and instruments while maintaining accuracy, reliability, safety, quality, and traceability.

This on-site role is based at our Monterey, CA facility (with work at our Marina location) and has no remote option.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience with C#, .NET, Python, Visual Basic, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
  • Experience supporting embedded controllers, firmware, communication interfaces, and legacy software platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Support and modernize production software and calibration/test systems.
  • Develop and maintain applications interfacing with production equipment and databases.
  • Collaborate on software architecture, validation, and deployment activities.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and tools to improve production visibility and quality.

JobSummary:

The Software Sustainability Engineer can understand legacy factory software, support production-critical systems, interface with a variety of sensors and instruments, and help modernize systems whilemaintainingaccuracy, reliability, safety, quality, and traceability.

This role is based on-site with our main facility in Monterey, CA. This will also include work at our Marina facility. There is no remote workoptionavailable.

Responsibilities:
  • Support and improve software used for production, calibration, testing, and manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot software issuesaffectingproduction, quality, calibration, and manufacturing performance.
  • Develop andmaintainapplications that interact with production equipment, sensors, instruments, and databases.
  • Support modernization of legacy software platforms and migration to newer technologies.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and data tools that improve visibility into production and quality performance.
  • Support calibration systems, test systems, data acquisition systems, and manufacturing automation.
  • Participatingin software architecture, validation, and deployment activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, engineering, IT, and operations teams.
  • Document system functionality, software changes, troubleshooting activities, and validation results.
  • Support engineering change implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in new product development projects, prototype activities, and product introductions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create andmaintaintechnical documentation, work instructions, procedures, and illustrated service or manufacturing documents.
  • Versed on Microsoft Office 365 Tools
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience with C#, .NET, Python, Visual Basic, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with modern programming practices and object-oriented development.
  • Experience supporting embedded controllers, firmware, communication interfaces, and legacy software platforms. Comfortable working with existing architectures, reverse engineering system behavior, and troubleshooting issues across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries.
  • Fundamental understanding of computer architecture, microcontrollers, memory devices, serial communications, and hardware/software interaction.
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems, preferably Epicor.
  • Experience troubleshooting software systems and working with production or test environments.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, calibration, test engineering, or instrumentation environments.
  • Familiarity with source control tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience modernizing legacy softwareapplications.
  • Familiaritywith data acquisition systems, industrial communications, sensors, orinstrumentation.
  • Experiencewith MES, production reporting, dashboards, or quality datasystems.
  • Exposureto thermal mass flow measurement, gas flow systems, or industrialinstrumentation.
  • Understandingofelectronics, hardware interfaces, or embedded systems.
  • Knowledgeof digital communication hardware and protocols such as RS232, RS485, USB, MODBUS, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, BACnet, HART, Ethernet, or similar industrialstandards.
  • Experience with GUIs.
Physical Demands:
  • Physical Demands: Able tolift upto 20 pounds, sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Visual Demands: Must be able to look at a computermonitorfor extended periods.
  • Manufacturing Environment: Must be able to work in a manufacturing company, which may involve exposure to machinery, noise, and other industrial conditions.

Pay Transparency:

We are committed topaytransparency andequitablecompensation practices. The compensation range for this positionis $91,800 - $126,200 depending on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

In addition to base compensation, this role includes a comprehensive benefit package which may include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other benefits.
