Job summary

Sierra Instruments, a TASI Measurement company, seeks a Mechanical Sustainability Engineer for our Monterey, CA site (on-site with Marina facility). You will support mechanical components, enclosures, sensors, fixtures, and tooling used in gas flow instrumentation, collaborating with manufacturing, quality, and product development teams to improve performance and reliability.

The role emphasizes design-for-manufacturing, BOM management, and engineering changes, with opportunities to contribute

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field is required.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing/instrumentation.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, 3D CAD and engineering drawing creation.
  • Strong understanding of materials, processes, GD&T, tolerancing, inspection techniques, and DFM principles.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal, welded assemblies, plastics, sealing methods, or pressure-containing hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Support released products through troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, engineering changes, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and production personnel to resolve technical issues.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support product validation, qualification, and reliability testing.
  • Develop and improve fixtures, tooling, assembly methods, inspection methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, components, suppliers, and manufacturing methods.
  • Support quality investigations, customer returns, and corrective action activities.
  • Implement engineering changes through ECO/ECN processes and participate in design reviews.

JobSummary:

The Mechanical Sustainability Engineer supports mechanical components, enclosures, sensors, assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing processes used in the production and calibration of gas flow instrumentation. Work includes collaboration with manufacturing personnel, suppliers, quality teams, and product development engineers to improve product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

This role is based on-site with our main facility in Monterey, CA. This will also include work at our Marina facility. There is no remote workoptionavailable.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support released products through troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, engineering changes, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and production personnel to resolve technical issues.
  • Create andmaintainCAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support product validation, qualification, and reliability testing.
  • Develop and improve fixtures, tooling, assembly methods, inspection methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, components, suppliers, and manufacturing methods.
  • Support quality investigations, customer returns, and corrective action activities.
  • Implement engineering changes through established ECO/ECN processes.
  • Participate in product design reviews and cross-functional engineering activities.
  • Contribute to new product development projects, prototype builds, testing, and product introduction activities .

RequiredQualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineeringor related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing, instrumentation, industrial products, or related environments.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, 3DCADand engineering drawing creation.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication methods, GD&T, tolerancing, inspection techniques, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Deep understanding of tools used for mechanical tolerance checks.
  • Experience supporting tooling, fixtures, test equipment, or production aids.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and BOM management.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal, welded assemblies, plastics, sealing methods, or pressure-containing hardware.
  • Experience supporting production environments and engineering change activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create andmaintaintechnical documentation, work instructions, procedures, and illustrated service or manufacturing documents.
  • Versed on Microsoft Office 365 Tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing, instrumentation, industrial products, or related environments.
  • Experience with thermal mass flow meters, process instrumentation, gas flow measurement, or industrialsensors.
  • Basic understanding of electronics packaging, sensors, or electromechanicalproducts.
  • Experiencewith supplier qualification, reliability improvement, or cost-reductionprograms.
  • Experience with compliance agencies, internal audits, and external audits.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical Demand(s): Canlift up to 25lbs,sitand stand for reasonable periods oftime.
  • VisualDemands: Must be able to look at a computermonitorfor extended periods.
  • Manufacturing Environment: Must be able to work in a manufacturing company, which may involve exposure to machinery, noise, and other industrial conditions.

Pay Transparency:

We are committed topaytransparency andequitablecompensation practices. The compensation range for this positionis $104,100 - $125,000 depending on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

In addition to base compensation, this role includes a comprehensive benefit package which may include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other benefits.
