Job summary

Cisco Systems is seeking a senior engineer for the Automation and Configuration Management (ACM) team. You will define the long-term direction for the configuration platform, guide architectural investments, and oversee projects spanning delivery, disaster recovery, fleet management, and reliability.

You will mentor engineers, set coding and design standards, and own production reliability, addressing incidents with strong technical judgment to reduce operational burden.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher with 8+ years experience; or Master's with 6+ years; or PhD with 3+ years.
• Experience in building and operating large-scale production systems with Go and/or Python.
• Experience designing resilient, scalable distributed systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure, GovCloud).
• Experience with configuration and infrastructure as code tools (Puppet, Terraform, Ansible) at scale.
• Experience leading major technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction beyond immediate teams.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for ACM’s configuration platform and define architecture investments.
• Lead and deliver complex projects spanning configuration delivery, disaster recovery, fleet management, and platform reliability.
• Establish standards for code quality, system design, observability, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers across levels through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and coaching.
• Own production reliability by providing technical judgment during incidents and reducing operational burden.
