Job summary

Cisco Systems is seeking a senior engineer to set the long-term direction for the ACM configuration platform, spanning delivery, DR, fleet management, and platform reliability. You will mentor engineers and drive high-impact initiatives across AWS, GCP, Azure, and GovCloud.

You will guide standards for code quality, observability, and operational excellence, while collaborating with multiple teams to reduce runbook toil and improve resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelors + 8 years related experience, or Masters + 6 years related experience, or PhD + 3 years related experience.
• Experience building and operating large-scale production systems with fluency in Go and/or Python.
• Applied experience designing resilient, scalable distributed systems in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or GovCloud.
• Prior experience with configuration and infrastructure as code tools like Puppet, Terraform, or Ansible at scale.
• Applied experience leading major technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction beyond immediate teams.

Responsibilities

• Set the long-term technical direction for ACM’s configuration platform by defining architecture, technology investments, and build vs. buy tradeoffs to support thousands of customers.
• Lead and deliver complex, high-impact projects spanning configuration delivery, disaster recovery, fleet management, and platform reliability.
• Establish standards for code quality, system design, observability, and operational excellence to raise the engineering bar.
• Mentor engineers across levels to accelerate their growth through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and coaching.
• Own production reliability by providing technical judgment during major incidents and designing systems that reduce operational burden.
