Job summary

Cisco Systems is seeking a senior engineer for the Automation and Configuration Management team to set long-term direction for the configuration platform across AWS, GCP, Azure, GovCloud. This role will lead architecture and high-impact projects, spanning configuration delivery, disaster recovery, fleet management, and platform reliability.

You will mentor engineers, establish coding and observability standards, and drive reliability during major incidents, with hybrid work in Denver or Raleigh

Qualifications

• Bachelors + 8 years of related experience, or Masters + 6 years, or PhD + 3 years of related experience.
• Experience building and operating large-scale production systems with Go and/or Python.
• Applied experience designing resilient, scalable distributed systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure, GovCloud).
• Experience with configuration and infrastructure as code tools (Puppet, Terraform, Ansible) at scale.
• Experience leading major technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction beyond immediate teams.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for ACM's configuration platform across thousands of customers.
• Lead high-impact projects spanning configuration delivery, disaster recovery, fleet management, and platform reliability.
• Establish standards for code quality, design, observability, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and coaching.
• Own production reliability by providing technical judgment during incidents and reducing operational burden.
