Job summary

CAE USA in Binghamton, NY is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to blend hands-on development with team leadership for high-fidelity flight and mission simulators used by pilots and defense personnel worldwide.

You will modernize legacy code, collaborate with hardware and program management, and guide projects using Waterfall and Agile methods while supporting DoD security requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on development in mission critical or realtime systems.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years leading teams, mentoring engineers, or serving as a technical lead.
  • Strong mastery of realtime/embedded or simulation development experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access. U.S. citizenship required.
  • Flexibility for occasional overtime, weekend/shift work, and CONUS travel.
  • Defense or military experience and comfort operating in both Traditional and Agile environments.

  • Lead and mentor software engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining software for flight and mission simulators, ensuring high reliability and exceptional performance.

  • Define roles and responsibilities and guide the adoption of best practice engineering processes and tools.

  • Support proposals, staffing plans, hiring, evaluations, and company communications. Qualifications and Education Requirements What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on development in mission critical or realtime systems.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years leading teams, mentoring engineers, or serving as a technical lead.

  • Strong mastery of realtime/embedded or simulation development experience.

  • High initiative, strong ownership, positive attitude, and consistent follow-through.

  • Ability to motivate, coach, and elevate a team while contributing technically ~80% of your time.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access. U.S. citizenship required.

  • Flexibility for occasional overtime, weekend/shift work, and CONUS travel.

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role. Preferred Skills

  • Experience in integrating modern technology into legacy architectures.

  • Experience with tools such as Atlassian suite, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, and change control systems.

  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience (Cost/Schedule/Technical)
