Job summary

Freddie Mac is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple agile squads in delivering modern full-stack applications, APIs, and microservices on a Java-based stack. You will mentor teams, drive platform modernization, and ensure secure, scalable solutions that meet regulatory and business needs.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of software engineering or technology delivery experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Leading multiple agile squads delivering complex initiatives across full-stack apps, APIs, microservices, and modernization.
• Hands-on or technical leadership with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS/cloud-native development, SQL, CI/CD, and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong background in API design, enterprise integration, security, performance, and production readiness.
• Experience establishing software engineering standards, including scalable design, testing, and auditability.
• Proven ability to provide technical direction, evaluate options, and guide architecture decisions.
• Experience managing engineering production support including incident triage and observability.
• Strong leadership in hiring, coaching, delegation, and succession planning.
• Ability to manage dependencies with vendors, Product Owners, architecture teams, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple agile squads delivering modern full-stack capabilities (applications, APIs, microservices).
• Provide technical direction on solution design and scalable, secure engineering choices.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, architecture, and stakeholders to align priorities and delivery.
• Drive design and implementation of Java-based microservices, REST APIs, front-end apps, and integration services.
• Establish and reinforce engineering standards, including security, testing, deployment discipline, and production readiness.
• Oversee production support, incident triage, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
