Software Engineering Manager, Data Platform

About The Role

We seek a talented Software Engineering Manager to lead our data platform engineering team, focusing on data pipelines, data warehousing, and APIs that support developers building tools for the US DoD.

You will lead a team responsible for structuring diverse multimodal datasets and providing access patterns for internal developers, including semantic search, entity search, and relational data primitives. This team is crucial in powering our products and supporting new initiatives, enabling faster development, reducing system duplication, and building a strong foundation for success.

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop scalable, reliable data pipelines, warehouses, and search capabilities for internal developers.
• Identify opportunities to improve developer experience and accelerate product development.
• Collaborate effectively with engineers, DevOps, and product teams, leveraging strong communication skills.
• Build and lead a cross-functional team, fostering strong partnerships across the organization.

What We Look For

• 3+ years leading platform engineering teams
• 10+ years as a backend, data, or search engineer
• Expertise in ETL pipelines, data warehousing, and API design
• Experience delivering scalable platform solutions for diverse data types
• High ethical standards in handling sensitive data, ensuring privacy and compliance
• Willingness to travel ~4 weeks per year for offsite and team meetings
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and project ownership skills
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or similar languages
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
• Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search engines
• Experience with cloud services like AWS
