Job summary

Averity in New York City is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a hands-on, technically engaged team building building tech used in modern workplaces. You will shape architecture, oversee delivery of customer-facing initiatives, and drive AI-enabled workflows across the development lifecycle.

Join a team that operates at the intersection of software and physical building systems, including access, operations and tenant-facing technology, with a 4-days onsite work model in NYC.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Engineering Management experience
• Hands-on software engineering background with involvement in architecture and design
• Experience building scalable web applications and backend services
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
• Experience leading complex technical projects from idea through production
• Track record of mentoring and developing engineers
• Strong product instincts and collaborative approach
• Hands-on experience with modern AI development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar)
• Understanding how to integrate AI into real software engineering workflows

Engineering Manager | Building Technology / Property Technology

I’m recruiting for a leading commercial real estate technology company looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team building the technology behind the modern workplace and building experience.

This is not an Engineering Manager role where you step away from the technology.

You’ll lead and develop a strong engineering team while staying closely involved in architecture, system design, technical strategy, code reviews and complex engineering decisions.

The product sits at the intersection of software and the physical world, powering how people interact with buildings — from access and operations to workplace experiences, integrations and tenant-facing technology.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead, mentor and grow a team of talented software engineers
• Own delivery of high-impact, customer-facing product initiatives
• Stay deeply involved in architecture, system design and technical problem-solving
• Help shape the technical direction of a sophisticated building technology platform
• Partner closely with Product and Design on new product capabilities
• Solve complex integration challenges across software and physical building systems
• Build and promote AI-enabled development workflows that improve engineering speed, quality and productivity
• Help the team adopt modern AI tooling across coding, testing, debugging, documentation and development workflows
• Evaluate where AI can genuinely improve the engineering process — and where traditional approaches are still better

What they’re looking for:

• 2+ years of Engineering Management experience
• A strong software engineering background and desire to remain technically engaged
• Experience building scalable web applications and backend services
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
• Experience leading complex technical projects from idea through production

• Strong product instincts and comfort operating in a highly collaborative environment
• Hands‑on experience using modern AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar
• A practical understanding of how to integrate AI into real software engineering workflows rather than simply experimenting with it

The technology environment includes Go, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Temporal and AWS.
