Job summary

RTX's Battle Management Software Department is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support development, testing, and related tasks across the software life cycle for aircraft embedded software applications.

The position requires United States citizenship to meet DoD security clearance eligibility and offers exposure to mission-critical avionics, displays, navigation, and planning systems in a high-tech defense environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in a technical field and enrolled for the internship/co-op session.
• Minimum 60 credit hours by the start of the internship/co-op.
• Experience in one or more languages such as C, C++, C#, Ada, Python.
• Experience with software lifecycle stages: requirements, design, development, integration, and test.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team daily.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Developing software in a Windows environment.
• Working knowledge of scripting (Shell/Perl/Python).
• Understanding of software design, integration, and management.

What You Will Do:

Our Battle Management Software Department is looking for a software engineering intern to support development, test, and other tasks throughout a software life cycle for aircraft embedded software applications.The aircraft operating system interfaces with several avionics systems including displays, navigation, and mission planning.This challenging work requires strong problem-solving skills and the desire to learn from and work with world class Engineers.

This position is for a Software Engineering Intern who has educational experience in the development and implementation of software for mission critical applications.

Use and provide creative solutions to complex technical system and software integration problems.

Work closely with other software engineers and systems engineers to design ideal solutions with the end user and operational needs in mind.
Support all aspects of a software development life cycle as a member of a multi-disciplined team. This includes supporting new and legacy military and commercial programs from concept and requirements, to design, development, integration, test, and potentially subsequent maintenance tasking.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in an applicable discipline and actively ++enrolled through completion of the internship/ co-op session.
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
• Demonstrated programming experience with one or more languages such as C, C++, C#, Ada, Python
• Classroom or other experience with software life-cycle stages such as requirements, design, development, integration, and test
• Able to work closely in a multi‑discipline team daily

• Working knowledge in computer scripting language such as Shell/Perl/Python

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience using a Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), e.g., Linux, Green Hills (GH) Integrity, VxWorks, or other
• Ada software development experience
• Experience in Unix/Linux computing environments
• Experience with embedded avionics and displays
• Experience using software optimization techniques and timing analysis to ensure real-time operation and synchronization of software products
• Working knowledge in the development and integration of software drivers for the operation of computer hardware interfaces
• Working knowledge in common computer hardware interface and data protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, RS-422, USB, PCI, and 1553
• Proficiency utilizing software debugging tools to troubleshoot software implementation and ensure integrity of the software products
• Experience developing requirements for software products
• Understanding of computer architecture and computer hardware optimization techniques
• Working knowledge of Software Configuration Management principles environments and tools
• Working knowledge and experience with configuration management tools such as Git
