Job summary

Pacific Fusion in San Leandro, CA is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to help build web-based UIs and backend services that support real-time fusion facility operations.

You will collaborate with controls engineers, scientists, and operators, write clean code, participate in reviews, and gain exposure to the full product lifecycle in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Coursework or experience in web or backend programming.
• Familiarity with Go or Python.
• Understanding of client–server applications, APIs and data flow.
• SQL and NoSQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve web-based UI for system status and health monitoring.
• Configure experiments and facility settings.
• Build backend services to serve real-time and historical data.
• Manage configuration, metadata, and system state.
• Interface with controls systems and data pipelines.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Test, debug, and validate software used in live environments.
