Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids is offering a full-time co-op session from January to August, focused on embedded software for next-generation avionics. You will gain hands-on experience with embedded Linux, C/C++, networking, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments.

You’ll learn the full software lifecycle, from requirements through verification and certification, while contributing to safety-critical projects and gaining mentorship from experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Strong development experience with C and C++.
• Actively enrolled in a STEM bachelor’s or advanced degree through the internship.
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by start of internship/co-op.

What You Will Do

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

• Design, develop, and maintain flight‑critical embedded software for next‑generation aviation and mission solutions
• Work hands‑on with embedded Linux, C/C++, networking protocols, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments
• Build high‑integrity systems that meet rigorous safety, reliability, and airworthiness standards
• Define requirements, implement features, develop test procedures, perform verification activities, and produce certification‑ready artifacts

Qualifications You Must Have

• Strong development experience with C and C++
• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.

• Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
