NBCUniversal's Media Group is seeking a Software Engineer to join the VOD Engineering team, building and operating large-scale media processing systems for ingestion, processing, and delivery of video content.

This hybrid role emphasizes ownership, reliability, and performance, with opportunities to apply computer vision, ML workloads, and modern tooling to power NBCU's streaming platforms including Peacock.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building, operating, and improving media pipelines at scale.

• Comfort working in agent-assisted development workflows, using AI tools to accelerate implementation, iterate on solutions, and produce production-quality pull requests.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the VOD Engineering team, responsible for building and evolving large-scale media processing systems. This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on designing, building, and operating distributed systems that power the ingestion, processing, and delivery of video content at scale.

We are looking for someone who is not afraid to take ownership, proactively identify improvements, and build systems that are reliable, performant, and scalable in real-world conditions.

What the team does

• The VOD Engineering team builds E2E video on demand solutions
• The VOD team is responsible for the automated media pipeline delivering content to NBCU’s streaming platforms including Peacock.
• Troubleshoots issues arising in the VOD pipeline.
• Configures encoding of video, audio and subtitles for delivery across various platforms/devices.
• Research new technologies in the media space and conduct POCs.
• Collaborates with Operations, player and client teams to drive innovation and improvements in video delivery.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
• Min 2 years of experience in engineering, software architecture and design
• Familiarity with video compression concepts, including inter‑frame encoding concepts
• Familiarity with container, transport, and multiplexing formats used in media workflows, plus exposure to FFmpeg, x264, and x265
• Experience with machine learning, computer vision, or media analysis systems
• Experience with open‑source projects, experimentation, and pushing systems beyond the obvious solution

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in‑office requirements at any time.
