Job description

Job Description

With unequalled scale, our teams make the most out of every opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another. We’re always looking for ways to innovate faster, accelerate our growth and consistently offer the very best in consumer experience. But most of all, we’re backed by a culture of respect. We embrace authenticity and inspire people to thrive.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Content Delivery Engineering team, reporting to the Global Video Engineering organization within Global Streaming Technology at NBCUniversal. The role is based at our facilities in New York City or Stamford, Connecticut and is focused on leading design, ensuring reliability and driving innovation, to deliver world‑class live sports and entertainment at scale, to our subscribers across US and Europe for Peacock, SkyShowtime, and Now & Wow.

Our team specializes in large‑scale Content Delivery Network design, deployment and operation, content steering, performance telemetry, real‑time analytics and interfacing with service origins via resilient workflows across business units, supporting solutions such as dynamic ad insertion, manifest manipulation and low‑latency streaming to audience concurrency in the millions.

Responsibilities

  • Author, sponsor or steer designs for multi‑platform technical solutions across spaces such as content steering and delivery, performance data analytics & decisioning - for deployment across our product portfolio and infrastructure, remaining hands‑on during execution and delivery.

  • Drive or guide complex technical debate with key management, architectural, design and operational teams throughout Comcast’s businesses and third‑party vendors, building relationships to improve our delivery end to end.

  • Conduct rigorous, in‑depth reviews of existing and planned systems & methods, challenging the status quo, inspiring innovation and managing change.

  • Be well‑informed and impartial, constructing and leading request‑for‑proposal processes, delivering associated proof‑of‑concept design, execution and measurement.

  • Enjoy tracking industry trends and maintaining an international, multi‑cultural business outlook, with an eye towards aligning talent to initiatives, representing NBCU/GST at industry forums and leading by engineering example, especially under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a relevant field is required.

  • Demonstrable experience in an engineering leadership role, 3+ years.

  • 8+ years of engineering experience as an individual contributor.

  • A successful track record in delivering and maintaining products/services with regional/global web audiences - via streaming over content delivery networks is a bonus.

  • A flair for communicating and presenting technical topics in spoken and written English, to diverse audiences.

  • Willingness to travel around the USA and Europe for work‑related activities.

  • Up‑to‑date knowledge with a range of foundational internet technologies, eg TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP/*, DNS & BGP.

  • Effective deployment of SRE to achieve consistent, high‑availability technology operations.

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in‑office requirements at any time.
