Description

WHO YOU ARE:
Seeking an IT professional to provide automated systems development work in support of Application Solutions software systems. Use a consultative, positive, solution-focused mentality with a proactive and can-do attitude. Communicate in a professional, customer-focused manner. Collaborate with other IT teams to accomplish work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Software Engineer (Programmer IV-V) perform advanced to highly advanced (senior-level) computer programming work. Work involves overseeing programming projects, analyzing proposed applications and designing software solutions. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Maintains a reliable predictable work schedule. May provide guidance or oversee the work of others. May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to complete urgent assignments or troubleshoot critical issues.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:

  1. Develop, analyze, and maintain Natural/Construct applications in an IBM mainframe environment.
  2. Perform or may oversee software development activities during all phases of the system development lifecycle (SDLC): design, code, test, implement, and maintain.
  3. Maintain a reliable, predictable work schedule, and/or be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments.
  4. May provide on call activities on a rotational basis.
  5. May serve as backup to the manager and other team members.
  6. Actively participate in maintaining and providing input to the departmental dashboard.
  7. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures including IT Handbook and SOPs that govern TWC IT.
  8. Contribute to teamwork and communicate effectively.
  9. Promote an image of IT excellence.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems or related field and two years of experience as a developer or six years of experience as a developer.
  2. Recent experience (in the last 5 years) with Natural, Construct, COBOL, DB2, SQL, TSO/ISPF, JCL.
  3. Detail-oriented skills and ability to solve complex to advanced computer programming problems.
  4. Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs; and in troubleshooting computer software systems.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills to serve as a technical consultant to peers, clearly and accurately document relevant issues, and prepare accurate, concise, reliable reports.
  6. Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission programs.
  7. Experience with TWC technology platforms.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:

  1. Programmer IV: Four years of full-time experience in data processing, computer science, computer programming, systems analysis, and/or related field.
  2. Programmer V: Five years of full-time experience in data processing, computer science, computer programming, systems analysis, and/or related field.
  3. Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
