Job summary

Kwaan Bear IT Solutions, LLC (KBITS) seeks a Senior Software Engineer with an active DoD Secret Clearance to lead advanced software development, DevSecOps, and autonomous systems integration in Adelphi, Maryland.

You will design and deploy software across Linux, embedded, cloud and HPC environments, architect CI/CD pipelines, and contribute to ML workflows and mission data pipelines. The role emphasizes security, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of software engineering/app development experience; or 12+ years in lieu of a degree.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance; DoD 8570/8140 certifications as required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and sustain software applications, services, APIs, command-line tools, and supporting infrastructure
• Architect DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and software release pipelines; support modeling, performance assessment, synthetic data generation, and large-scale testing
• Build and maintain mission data ingestion, processing, annotation, storage, and analytics pipelines
• Develop ML and computer vision support capabilities, including model training, evaluation, data labeling, and automation frameworks
• Create post-mission analysis, performance assessment, fault analysis, visualization, and reporting tools
• Integrate software across autonomous platforms and government applications; support HPC, cloud, embedded, Linux, and containerized environments
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and identify automation opportunities to improve development efficiency and software quality

TITLE: Software Engineer Senior

Certifications: DoD 8570/8140 certification appropriate to assigned duties; applicable technical/baseline certifications as required
Education: Bachelor’s degree, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline

• With eight (8+) years of progressively responsible software engineering/application development experience; or twelve (12+) years of directly relevant software engineering, application development, integration, and sustainment experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

The Senior Software Engineer / DevSecOps & Autonomous Systems Integration Engineer position provides advanced software engineering, systems integration, automation, analytics, and technical modernization support for autonomous systems, simulation environments, machine learning workflows, and mission-critical research and development programs.

Responsibilities include

• Designing, developing, testing, deploying, and sustaining software applications, services, APIs, command-line tools, and supporting infrastructure
• Architecting and implementing DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and software release pipelines; developing simulation and digital engineering capabilities to support modeling, performance assessment, synthetic data generation, and large-scale automated testing
• Building and maintaining mission data ingestion, processing, annotation, storage, and analytics pipelines
• Developing machine learning and computer vision support capabilities, including model training, evaluation, data labeling, and automation frameworks
• Creating post-mission analysis, performance assessment, fault analysis, visualization, and reporting tools
• Integrating software across autonomous platforms, mission systems, simulation environments, and government applications
• Supporting high-performance computing, cloud, embedded, ARM, x86, Linux, and containerized computing environments; managing software repositories, configuration management processes, and distributed development architectures
• Implementing software quality assurance, cybersecurity, and secure software development practices
• Developing technical documentation, deployment procedures, engineering standards, and transition packages
• Supporting experimentation, demonstrations, flight tests, operational assessments, and technology transition activities
• Providing technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer; and identifying opportunities to automate processes, improve development efficiency, enhance software quality, and accelerate the fielding of advanced capabilities.

Work requires expertise in software engineering methodologies;

• Python, C++, Bash, and scripting languages; ROS/ROS2, Git, GitLab, and source code management, Docker, containerization, and virtualization technologies, CI/CD pipeline development;
• Linux and embedded systems engineering, cloud and high-performance computing environments, machine learning operations (MLOps), computer vision and sensor data exploitation, data engineering, analytics, and visualization, simulation and modeling tools
• Software architecture and systems integration; automated testing and validation, cybersecurity and secure coding practices, database and object storage technologies;
• Agile software development methodologies, and technical analysis supporting autonomous, artificial intelligence, and research systems.
