Job summary

Google Public Sector is hiring software engineers to build sovereign cloud platforms for U.S. government and education, handling large-scale distributed systems with security and reliability at the core.

You will own the full lifecycle of air-gapped services, from inception and design through deployment, operation, and refinement, working across teams to ensure scalable, resilient solutions. The role emphasizes leadership, architectural excellence, and the ability to adapt as technologies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• 1 year software development in one or more languages.
• Must have active Top Secret/SCI clearance or willing polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete life-cycle of Google Public Sector air-gapped services from inception to refinement.
• Provide design consulting, develop software platforms, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
• Maintain live services by measuring availability, latency, and health; scale via automation.
• Scale systems through mechanisms like automation and drive reliability and velocity.
• Practice blameless postmortems and sustainable incident response.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

• US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.


• Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.


• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.


• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
