Job summary

Whatnot is hiring a Safety XP professional to design and build real-time protection systems for our live commerce platform. You will work on production algorithms and infrastructure to mitigate systemic risks affecting buyers, sellers, and the Whatnot community.

With 4+ years of software experience and a data-driven mindset, you will balance risk with user experience, and collaborate across product teams to deliver resilient solutions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent.
• Explicit data science or machine-learning experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop systems to protect the platform and its users.
• Balance risk and user experience to minimize friction.
• Respond in real time to threats with event-driven pipelines and detection frameworks.
• Contribute across the full development lifecycle from ideation to monitoring.
• Drive cross-team initiatives and surface insights to leadership.
• Continuously evolve defenses against emerging abuse patterns.
