Job summary

HII Mission Technologies seeks a Software Engineer 2 to design, develop, integrate, and sustain applications in support of the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) and the Navy Training Baseline (NTB).

NCTE enables distributed Live-Virtual-Constructive training and underpins the navy training architecture. This role delivers robust solutions, enabling Fleet LVC and Joint LVC training with speed and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in related field; or 0 years with a Master’s in related field; or HS diploma with 6 years relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain related technical certifications; Security+ and Linux.
• U.S. Citizenship able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; on-site support as required.
• Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented design and development.
• Experience developing multi-threaded applications.
• Proficiency with Java IDEs (IntelliJ, Eclipse) and Java debugging tools.
• Development experience in Linux/Unix environments; shell scripting for automation.
• Source control proficiency with Git.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; cross-functional team collaboration.
• JavaScript development with modern UI frameworks (Sencha ExtJS, Vue.js).
• Unit testing (JUnit) and Agile development practices.
• Systems Engineering familiarity; integration with LVC architectures (TENA, HLA, DIS).
• Build systems and messaging frameworks (Gradle, ActiveMQ); OSGi, CSS/HTML, CI/CD; code quality tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications and systems with logical/mathematical solutions.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to plan, design, develop, and utilize processing systems for software.
• Determine user needs; analyze capabilities to resolve requirements; prepare operating instructions.
• Design and develop compilers/assemblers, utility programs, and OS components as needed; ensure standards.
• Contribute to project milestones under general supervision.
• Support continuous improvement of software infrastructure and participate in proposals, briefings, reports, manuals.
• Deliver robust, maintainable software capabilities for JSAF with end users.
• Develop, enhance, integrate, and support JSAF features with a team of developers.
