Job summary

PNC is seeking a Software Engineer Lead in the C&IB organization, based in Pittsburgh, PA. You will drive UI architecture for web apps, build reusable components in Angular/React/Vue, and integrate with backend services via REST APIs and microservices.

You will mentor UI developers, enforce quality standards, and work closely with UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and DevOps in an Agile environment. Strong focus on accessibility, security, and scalable performance.

As a Software Engineer Lead within PNC's C&IB organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Lead UI architecture and design decisions for web and responsive applications.
  • Define UI standards, best practices, and reusable component libraries.
  • Review code, enforce quality standards, and mentor UI developers.
  • Guide adoption of modern UI frameworks and design systems.
Development
  • Design and develop complex, scalable, and responsive UI solutions.
  • Build reusable UI components using Angular / React / Vue and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Integrate UI with backend services via REST APIs and microservices.
  • Optimize applications for performance, security, and cross browser compatibility.
Collaboration
  • Partner with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and prototypes into high quality implementations.
  • Work closely with backend engineers, architects, and DevOps teams.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (PI planning, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives).
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure UI compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG / ADA).
  • Enforce secure coding practices and enterprise UI standards.
  • Support automated testing (unit, integration, UI automation).

Creates and leads the technical design and development of software solutions. Proposes & designs software solutions to address complex business needs. Prepares technical and procedural documentation required. Facilitates complex problem resolution. Provides technical guidance and support to colleagues. Reviews coding, testing, and documentation of software. Applies modern principles, methodologies and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for a role. Listed below are skills, competencies, work experience, education, and required certifications/licensures needed to be successful in this position.

Required Qualifications
  • Multiple years of experience in UI / front end development.
  • 2+ years in a technical lead or senior UI role.
  • Strong expertise in: o HTML5, CSS3, SCSS o JavaScript / TypeScript o Angular, React, or Vue
  • Experience building Single Page Applications (SPA).
  • Strong understanding of responsive and mobile first design.
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and JSON.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git based source control.
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise design systems and component libraries.
  • Exposure to accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x).
  • Knowledge of microservices based architectures.
  • Experience with UI testing frameworks (Jest, Jasmine, Cypress, Playwright).
  • Cloud exposure (AWS / Azure).
  • Financial services or regulated industry experience.
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and drive consensus.
  • Proven mentoring and coaching experience.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
