Job summary

Red Cat Holdings is seeking a motivated Software Engineer Intern to help advance the Android-based ground control station for our drone platforms. You will work with our engineering team on real-time data connections, C++ code, and Android apps, gaining hands-on experience in field-ready software.

You will learn MAVLink communications, debugging in Linux environments, and contribute to testing, tooling, and documentation under mentorship from senior engineers.

Qualifications

Red Cat Holdingis looking for a motivated Software Engineer Intern to support our engineering team working on the ground control station experience for our drone platforms. This is a hands‑on opportunity to learn real‑world software engineering — including C++, Android development, and real‑time systems — while contributing to features used in actual drone missions.

You’llwork alongside experienced engineers on problems like: how do you keep a live data connection stable between a drone and a tablet? How do you debug an appthat’srunning slow or crashing? How do you build something that has to work reliably in the field, not just in a lab?

No prior drone or aerospace experience needed —we’relooking for strong fundamentals and curiosity, with mentorship built in.

What You’ll Do

• Assistin building and testing features for our Android‑based ground control application, under the guidance of senior engineers
• Help debug issues in native C++ code, Android apps, or communication between the two
• Learn how drones and ground control software communicate in real time (MAVLinkprotocol, networking basics)
• Support testing and validation of new features, including field‑testing support when available
• Contribute to build tooling, documentation, or automation tasks as needed
• Participate in code reviews and team discussions to build good engineering habits early

What We’re Looking For

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Coursework or personal projects involving C++ (Java/Kotlin, Python, or other languages also valued)
• Strong problem‑solving and debugging instincts — comfortable digging into why somethingisn'tworking
• Genuine interest in robotics, drones, or real‑time/embedded systems
• Comfortable working in a Linux‑based development environment (or willing to learn quickly)

Nice to Have (notrequired)

• Exposure to Android development or mobile app projects
• Familiarity with Qt/QML or other UI frameworks
• Interest in networking, hardware interfaces, or systems programming

Working Conditions

• Primarily computer‑based work in an office/lab environment
• Occasional participation in field testing or facility walk‑throughs may be available for hands‑on exposure
