Job summary

Grubhub Holdings Inc. is seeking a senior software engineer to build scalable, customer-facing applications. You will architect and develop testable, fault-tolerant software with a focus on future evolution, distributed systems, and reliability.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, strong OO skills (Java), and AWS or cloud experience. You will work across teams to deliver high-availability services, implement observability, and participate in CI/CD workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a science, programming, or engineering field.
5+ years building scalable consumer-facing applications (e-commerce preferred).
Experience with Java or other OO languages.
Designing testable, fault-tolerant, and performant software.
Experience with multi-component distributed systems.
AWS or similar cloud experience.
Automated testing experience for services (JUnit, Mockito, JMeter/Gatling).
Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms.
Experience building highly-available distributed systems (4x9 uptime).
Observability as part of the application.
Modeling system resource requirements as load changes.
Interest in fast-paced product-oriented tech.
Distributed NoSQL experience (Cassandra or similar).
Docker or containerized solutions.
CI/CD tools (Gradle, Jenkins, Spinnaker, or similar).
Experience leading as IC, prioritization and cross-team collaboration.
Accountability for software and upstream/downstream dependencies.
Passion for challenging the status quo and problem solving creatively.
