Job summary

Grubhub is seeking an accomplished software engineer to help build scalable, reliable platform components in a fast-paced environment. You will drive delivery, deployment, maintenance, and performance monitoring of services across distributed systems, while reviewing peers’ code for security and scalability.

You will evaluate tools and vendors with senior team members, contribute to backlog refinement, and ensure a high standard of software quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, programming or engineering.
• 5+ years building scalable consumer-facing apps (e-commerce preferred).
• Experience with Java or other OOP languages.
• Experience designing testable, fault-tolerant software with scalability.
• Experience with distributed multi-component systems across networks.
• AWS experience or similar cloud offerings.
• Automated testing experience (JUnit/Mockito, JMeter/Gatling).
• Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms.
• Experience building highly-available distributed systems.
• Building observability into applications.
• Modeling resource needs as load changes.
• Interest in fast-paced, product-focused tech company.
• Distributed Cassandra or NoSQL experience.
• Docker or containerized solutions.
• CI/CD tools like Gradle, Jenkins, Spinnaker.
• Experience leading as an IC, prioritization and self-management.
• Accountability for customer experience during outages.
• Challenging the status quo and solving problems creatively.

Responsibilities

• Gain domain expertise and build scalable, reliable platform components.
• Responsible for delivery, deployment, maintenance and performance monitoring.
• Evaluate tools, technologies, frameworks, and vendors with the team.
• Write performant, concise code and review peers’ code for quality and security.
• Ensure security and scalability of features across the platform.
• Help create the backlog of tech debt and new features; suggest improvements.
• Collaborate with domain teams; be a team player and proactive.
