Job summary

Frost is seeking a Software Engineer II–Java & Microservices to design, develop, and maintain scalable enterprise applications. You will join a collaborative IT team, delivering RESTful services and robust microservices while following best practices for testing and deployment.

Ideal candidates have strong Java/Spring Boot skills, experience with Docker/Kubernetes, and a solid understanding of CI/CD, security (JWT/OAuth2), and messaging (Kafka or RabbitMQ).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in CS/Engineering.
• 2+ years of software development experience with Java-based microservices.
• Strong understanding of software development principles and methodologies.

The candidate for this exciting opportunity will need to be living in the San Antonio, Texas or the Austin, Texas or the Dallas, Texas areas. This role will require 2 to 3 days per month at the One Frost Corporate Campus office in San Antonio. Frost will help with relocation costs to move to Texas area if one is not currently living in those areas.

Who You Are

As a Software Engineer II – Java & Microservices at Frost, you are our code guru, not only configuring the systems but understanding the why’s behind them. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, supporting, and documenting solutions for assigned applications across the organization. You welcome a challenge and want to provide next level experiences to every individual that uses our systems.

What You’ll Do

• Design, write, test, implement, and document solutions for assigned program modules
• Collaborate with project teams and other Software Engineers to provide technical support
• Support assigned IT systems/applications by troubleshooting and resolving defects

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, in a related field, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated ability to independently identify program issues and develop the appropriate solution, typically requiring at least 2 years of experience
• Strong understanding of software development principles, programming concepts, best practices, and development methodologies
• Demonstrated strong experience with Java and SQL
• Experience designing and building scalable enterprise applications using Spring Boot and Microservices architecture
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using unit and integration testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
• Strong experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful microservices, including API design, Spring Security, JWT/OAuth2 authentication, service-to-service communication, and event-driven architectures using Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, as well as containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across application, infrastructure, and system layers
• Knowledge of resilient microservice patterns such as Circuit Breaker, Retry, Timeout, and Bulkhead to ensure system reliability and fault tolerance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions
• Having knowledge on Banking and Financial is preferred
• Experience with API Gateway technologies
• Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools
• Exposure to front-end and mobile application development technologies such as Angular, Kotlin, Xcode, or similar frameworks is a plus.
